Why Education? Your Educational Narrative
In this assignment, you will write about what role education plays in your life. Melba was willing to sacrifice a lot for what she thought would be a better education. People still question whether she learned more at Central than she would have learned at Dunbar.
How and why is education important to you? How aware are you of how you learn? Did your feelings about school change from elementary to middle to high school? What caused the change?
Do you perceive of yourself as a hard worker? Do you think you are naturally intelligent? Are you the type of person who likes a good challenge, or are you more likely to give up when the work gets difficult? Why? Do you think teachers perceive that you are a good student? Why or why not?
How could you improve as a student and are you willing to take the steps needed to do so? When have you taken risks as a student and what were the results?
As you answer these questions, you need to use specific examples from your education that support your position.
In your essay, include the following details:
- Names and years of schools you attended
- Your favorite teacher and why
- Your parents’ and sibling’s educational achievement
- Where you think you will be in five years in relationship to your education and why
- What is the key to motivating you in school
Your paper should be word-processed and should be a minimum of 750 words. You should illustrate this memoir. You should be sure to proofread your paper for spelling and grammar. Think about the order in which you want to present the information. This paper should make you reflect on what education means to you and how you relate to “the life of the mind.”
