Look what’s happening in Miss Zieller’s room!
Posted in Genres | No Comments »At the beginning of the year, Miss Zieller’s class studied genre! They developed an outstanding bulletin board to reference throughout the year. Check it out below:
Miss Zieller’s library is organized by genre.
Labels on each of the book bins in the library allow students to choose books by the genres they are interest in reading.
Students know where to put books back on the shelf by referencing a sticker on the back of each of the books.
Students explained the difference between each of the genres in their own words:
Matthew: “A biography is a story about a famous person. It is written by someone else, not the person it is about. My favorite biography would be a biography about Thomas Edison because he invented stuff to make the world a better place.”
Jessica: “Realistic Fiction is a story that can happen. The author could write about something that really could happen or maybe made up some parts.”
Pierce: “Science fiction is a kind of story when people use things scientists discover and turn them into stories. These are like fantasy. Topics could include robots and genetic monsters.”
Cole: “A mystery is a fictional story usually about something happening that people don’t understand so they have to solve it using clues.”
Ethan: “Traditional literature is a story that is passed down and used in many cultures and countries. It is a story that may be well known in that specific culture or country.”
Lexi: “Poetry is writing that often rhymes. Some types of poems are haiku, acrostic, and rhyming like the The Cat in the Hat.”
Kate: “Fantasy is a story that has made up characters and objects that are impossible to find in real life. An example of a character in a fantasy story is a dragon.”
Bravo Miss Zieller’s Class!
