is a month of getting to know one another. We are starting the school year on the 1st of September this year. I hope everyone had a great summer and is ready for their last year at Duffy. We will have a welcoming assembly on the front lawn. Find me at the Taylor sign. Everyone has to learn their multiplication facts before 5th grade starts. Don’t tell anyone but there will be a test in the first week.  There will be no school September 6th due to Labor Day and on September 9th for Rosh Hashanna. We will have our curriculum night in September on the 16th from 6:15 to 7:30.

What will we learn this year?

   There will be no school  October 11th for Columbus Day. Townwide cross country for grades 3 to 5 is in October and school pictures are scheduled October 5th. We will have to miss the Duffy Halloween party and parade in October because we are going to Nature’s Classroom for 3 days!

You’re never too old for scary stories

   is when our first report cards come out. Parent conferences will be the 8th to the 12th. There is no school on November 2nd due to Veteran’s Day. We will out of school on the 25th and 26th for Thanksgiving. The week we get back is our Book fair just in time for the holidays.

The Winter Concert will be at the end of the month 9:30 AM and 7:00 PM. Students will work on a math project called Holiday Giving. December is poetry month and we will have a poetry tea the week before the holiday break. Holiday break is from December 24th to January 2nd.

In   we will start the Colonization Quest.  Students get to work together to create a colony in the future. Martin Luther King Day is on the 17th and there will not be school that day. 

In we will have a Valentines party and Student Council representatives will go to Chatfield February 12th.  We will have our winter break from February 18th until the 21st.  Read Across America and PJ and Slipper Day will in February.

Jump Rope For Heart will be in .  We will have the second parent conferences the week of March 22nd and the first marking period where the students received letter grades. We will also conduct a Character Education survey at home looking for examples of citizenship. The West Hartford District goes by a straight percentage and single letter system. 

In the kids will have our Spring break from April 18th to the 22nd.  We will also have our big day at Sedgwick when fifth graders get to visit their new school.  

One year we followed sailboat from Hong Kong to New York on the Sites Alive Program. We won a satellite phone call from the captain!
