About Me

Shannon McNeiceshanselfsmile
Library Media Specialist
Sedgwick Middle School
Passions: Working with teens, all things technology, and reading!
Thankful: To have a job which involves my three favorite things!

My mission is to teach anyone who will listen how to be a 21st century thinker! Whether we are determining the validity of information on the Internet, finding the best information to meet a specific need, participating in a user-generated content-driven world, or caring for one’s digital footprint, I will be right there to learn and discover along with my students and colleagues!

Pathway to best job ever:

A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, I began my career as a high school English teacher. I loved that job, until the Internet came to school. In 1995 EHS got a grant for an Internet lab. I was hooked. I immediately began constructing Webquests to enrich my curriculum. Of course, at that time the “web” was really a show-and-tell place. I had 5 great Shakespeare sites that I had kids search for  information – a “web quest.” My how far we’ve come. . .

Thanks to a very forward thinking high school librarian, Nancy Strong, I learned how new technologies could improve library service: cds with magazine articles, book ordering online by isbn, an automated card catalog! Wow. Those were heady days!

Then there was Geocities. Oh Geocities how I loved your usefulness! The rest is history. AOL, FrontPage, Filamentality . . .

Now—the daily plan:  Instill a love for reading andhttp://www.iste.org/standards/nets-for-students.aspx

I tried to change the page on Sedgwick Middle School about you being awesome and they took it off immediately saying that it was vandalism and unconstructive! They are rude!
