Welcome Back to Choir!

January 24th, 2011

I look forward to choir rehearsal this Wednesday, January 26 at 7:45. We’re starting all new music for the spring concert – I’m very excited about the pieces we’re going to do!

4th grade sings before holiday break

December 23rd, 2010

Miss Zieller’s class sings the 2 part song we’ve just begun – A Ram Sam Sam from Morocco. Mr. Bassett’s class sings an older song “My Landlord”. This song is somewhat silly, but has a fun clapping pattern to it. Mrs. Baker’s class sings Funga Alafia three ways – with words, with rhythm syllables and with solfege. Mrs. Klein’s class sings “Weevily Wheat” – the kids love practicing their multiplication facts in this song :-)

Zieller Ram Sam
Bassett Landlord
Baker Funga
Klein Wheat

Another round for 1st Grade

December 3rd, 2010

Mr. Muska’s class sings in 2 parts – quite advanced for 1st grade! Mrs. Roberts class sings When I was One – it’s a long one. Mrs. Marques class also does a 2 part song – one part is spoken, the other is sung. We’re already getting ready for choir in 4th grade!

Muska See Saw
Roberts One
Marques Johnny

5th Grade in November/ December

November 26th, 2010

Listen to Mr. A’s class sing Chairs to Mend, an old song. Mrs. Hedman’s class sings the 2-part version of John Kanaka. Mr. K’s class sings the 3-part round, Sandy McNabb.

Mr A Chairs
Hedman JK
Kriticos Sandy

3rd Grade – Round 2

November 22nd, 2010

Mrs. Campagna’s class sings “Paw Paw Patch”. The class does an excellent job with the little dance to this song; for this type of song, the dance is technically called a “play party”. Mrs. Forzley’s class sings another play party – Push the Business On. Miss Clark’s class sings our 2-part version of “Two Elephants”. Singing in 2 parts is good preparation for 4th grade choir. Mrs. Thomson’s class sings Tideo 2 ways -with words and with rhythm syllables, using our new rhythm.

Campagna Paw
Forzley Push Biz
Clark Elephant
Thomson Tideo

Kindergarten goes on the blog!

November 22nd, 2010

Mrs. Greenfield’s class sings “Ridin in a Buggy” – they recorded this right after each student sang it individually for me. I couldn’t resist adding this next one – Mrs. Greenfield’s class singing “Wake Up You Sleepy Heads” with OS as the soloist – it is a little wild, but they were just so cute doing it! Mrs. Durocher’s class sings our pie song, with LR, BG and BG as soloists with the class echoing (and a “sit” instruction from me…oops) Mrs. Goldenthal’s class sings the owl song with NK, AG and MR as soloists with the class echoing.

Greenfield Riding
Durocher Pie
Goldenthal Owl
Greenfield Wake Up

Round 2 for 2nd grade

November 22nd, 2010

Mrs. Moses’ class does the 2-part poem Dinosaur Zoo. Can you tell that we switch parts in the middle? Mrs. Somerville’s class sings Little Sally Water on words and then on rhythm syllables. What musicians they already are! Miss Thesen’s class sings “Old Mother Brown” with a few students clapping an ostinato. Do you know what an ostinato is? Your students do!
Moses Zoo
Somerville Sally
Thesen Old Mother

Choir Updates

November 22nd, 2010

Just a reminder that the concert is Wednesday December 8. We will have rehearsal that morning and will plan to do a run-through where we sing just as if it were the concert – no stopping no matter what happens!

Concert dress is white on the top, black on the bottom.

See you on-time for our last 2 rehearsals, Wednesday Nov. 24 and Wednesday Dec. 1.

Choir Week of 11/3 to 11/9

November 3rd, 2010

Only 4 rehearsals left before concert day!!! At our next rehearsal we need to get on the risers AND make sure we rehearse each one of our songs. That means we’ll all have to be focused – including me. Your homework for the week is to memorize the words to Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. I want to be able to run it without music next week so we can begin thinking about dynamics and making it musical. The secret phrase for next week is “Dynamics”.

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow, to watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year, the darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
The woods are lovely, dark and deep
But I have promises to keep
And miles to go before I sleep.

Choir week of 10/27 to 11/3

October 28th, 2010

I’m happy that Shalom is starting to come together. I look forward to hearing 5th graders on the drums on Friday.

For this week, please listen to the endings for Nun Gimel. I’m not sure which grade will sing which part, so please listen to and learn them both.

The secret phrase is “Be on time!” – so please do be on time for Wednesday’s rehearsal.
