The 6th graders had a BLAST today working with Mr. S, Mr. D, and Rob the Drummer–they learned about some music from the Middle Eastern part of the world, including the doumbeg, oud, and zoorna. We were able to learn a basic dance step and drummed with our guests. It was a great day– I wish that we had more time with them! Here is a little video clip of their work today, as well as some photos of our students in action.

We are so excited to welcome some special guests for our Monday general music class–some experts in Middle Eastern Music, including our district Music Consultant, Haig Shahverdian.

What are some questions you might want to ask our special guests?

I am so thankful that I work somewhere where I get to teach ALL of the students music. Do you know there are some places where kids don’t have to take music in middle school? There is so much those kids miss out on that I am glad you get here in West Hartford. I am also thankful for my own teachers (music and otherwise) who inspired me to be a teacher. I learned so much from each and every one of them, and owe them so much.
