Q & A

IMPORTANT DATES!!!
Q — Will you assign a section in our packet for homework every night (for Top Story/United Force Discussions)?
A — Yes, I will. I want to make sure you stay on track. However, as the year goes on, I want you to become more independent; therefore, I will not assign sections.
Q — What are the suspects and investigation pages for?
A — The suspects page is for you to learn the words from the article that you are unsure of. Write them on the page and then look up and write in the definition. The investigation page is for you to write down the important information you learned from the articles to help you make an informed decision about the big question: Is global warming fact or myth?
Q –Do we have to do the worksheets in order?
A — Yes, it won’t make sense to do them out of order.
Q — Do we have to follow the calendar?
A — No, you do not have to follow the calendar. The calendar is there to assist you in case you have trouble with long term assignments. It is important to plan out what you are going to do when, and the calendar suggests just that.
Q — Is there a certain subject we have to write about for the Top Story dicussions?
A — Remember for a Top Story Discussion, I select the top we will all discuss. In this case, it is Global Warming. If this was a plan old United Force Discussion, you all would have different topics, selected by you, to write about.
Q — Are we goig to do this by ourselves or with you?
A — All the information in your top secret packet you will do on your OWN!! I will not give you any class time to work on this. If you need help, we can always meet afterschool.
Q –When is this due?
A — Great question and you can find your answer in your United Force packet I handed out a few weeks ago. It lists all the dates that everythng is due. Remember, I give you two weeks to do all this. October 7, 2009
Q — Do we do everything in the packet?
A — Yes, I will be collecting and grading the packets. It is extremely important to do everything or else you will not be prepared for the discussions.
Q — Can we type the answers to the questions in the packet?
A — Yes, just make sure you staple it to the packet and it is clearly labeled as to what you are answering.
Q — Will you tell us when our newscast is coming up?
A — I will try to remind you, but you have to remember every class is doing something different. I may forget. I gave you the dates in the original packet, so you have to be responsible for remembering them.
Q — Do you pick a topic or do we pick one and you approve?
A — For Top Story days, I pick the article. For United Force and Newscast days, you pick whatever you want.
Q — Why are we doing this?
A — I think you can figure that out. If not, ask your classmates.
Q — Do we have to do the Newscasts sheets if we are not doing our newscast?
A — NO!!! Only complete the newscasts sheets when it is your turn to present.
Q — When are we suppose to meet for our newscasts?
A — There are many chances you have to meet. You need to plan it with your group. Here are some suggestions: Afterschool (homework center or at home), before school, learning lab or on a Wednesday since you all get out really early.
Q — Why are there three Investigation charts in the Newscast packet?
A — You need to find all the information necessary about your Newscast topic; therefore, you may need to look for more than one article for information. There are three in there so you have room to take notes on different articles.
Q — Can we talk about weather as a current event?
A — NO!!! We want to find out what going on in the world not the weather.
Q — Why do we only get 60 secons to talk about our Newscast?
A — OH NO!!! During a Newscast presentation, your group has 20 minutes to talk in detail about your current event. During a United Force discussion, you only have 60 seconds because we have to make sure all the students get a chance to speak.
Q — When do we have to start researching our events?
A — Two weeks before your presentation date. Check the packet dates.
Q –How recent do the articles have to be?
A — Think about what current means. Not sure, check out this page.
Q — What does it mean by Evidence? Does it mean find evidence about global warming?
A — The evidence page is a predicition page. You should predict that you think you are going to read about. I am sorry the title is confusing. I will rename it.
