Language Arts
- Read the assigned readings for your literature circle book–follow the reading schedule. This week: complete assignments 13 – 17, as well as the Warm-Up questions for homework. You will have class time to meet with your book group and complete the “After Reading” questions.
- Complete the “Orpheus” reading and handout. Due Thurs., 5/24.
- Check back for updates.
Social Studies
- Greece. Chapter 25: Complete note-taking for your group’s assigned section, and prepare a skit for teaching the class. (Class work Mon.)
- Complete the Chapter 25 packet, including the processing activity. Due Wed., 5/23.

Language Arts
- Complete the ASCs in response to “The Flight of Icarus” (Class work Monday). Complete for homework if you didn’t finish it in class. Due Tues., 5/15.
- Read the assigned readings for your literature circle book–follow the reading schedule. This week: complete assignments 8 - 12 as well as the Warm-Up questions for homework. You will have class time to meet with your book group and complete the “After Reading” questions.
- Study the rest of your notes in your mythology packets. (You can also practice on Quia.) Quiz–Allusions–Thurs., 5/17.
- Literature Circle Journal Check/Reflection–Due Mon., 5/21.
Social Studies
- Mask project. Complete your planning for the symbolic elements of your mask during class on Monday. Write your rough draft of your “Catalog Description” for homework on Monday. Due Tues., 5/15.
- If you would like to, bring in simple materials from home that use can use in making your mask. You will have class time on Tuesday to work on making your mask.
- Finished mask and typed catalog description–Due Fri., 5/18.
- Greece. This week we will complete the geography challenge as well as reading and note-taking for sections 25.2 and 25.3.

Language Arts
- Read the assigned readings for your literature circle book–follow the reading schedule. (The chapters numbers are different depending on the book you have.) This week: complete assignments 3 – 7 as well as the Warm-Up questions.
- Study your notes in your mythology packets. Last week, you should have learned the details about the Olympian gods. This week, learn the details related to the second page of notes (Titans and other gods/characters). Also review the first page of notes on the allusions. (You can also practice on Quia.) Allusions quiz–Thurs., 5/17.
- Read “The Sirens.” Make an illustration and answer questions 1b and 2c using complete sentences (class work Wednesday).
- Bonus: You can earn up to 4 bonus points by completing “Mythology in the News” on the blog by Fri., 5/11. (You can earn 2 additional bonus points if you are the only one of my students who found that term.)
Social Studies
- Write a question to ask Dr. Morrow about his recent trip to China. Due Wed., 5/9.
- This week we are finishing our study of India and beginning a mask assignment.
- Mask study: Complete all the steps through step 7, except for step 6. (You should skip step 6 for now.) Due Mon., 5/14. Optional: Find any scrap craft-making materials to bring in on Tuesday to make your own mask.

Language Arts
- Poet of the Day: Be prepared to present on the date you signed up for. If you are absent on the date you signed up for, be prepared to present on the day you return to class.
- Greek mythology project: You will have class time on Monday and Tuesday to work on your advertisement/product. Choose a visual/prop for your character. Continue working on your project for homework. Review the project rubric, and make sure you have all the parts completed. Presentations due Wed., 5/2.
- Complete the first “Warm Up” writing assignment for your assigned book. Due Thurs., 5/3.
- Read the assigned readings for your literature circle book–follow the reading schedule. (The chapters numbers are different depending on the book you have.) Thurs–Assignment #1; Friday–Assignment #2. After each chapter, complete the “Warm Up” for the next chapter.
- Review the notes from each day’s presentation for homework. Learn the Greek/Roman name, domain, and symbol of the Olympian gods by Mon., 5/7. There will be a mini-quiz (homework grade) on Monday to check your studying.
Social Studies
- Review for the India test, and complete the study guide. Study guide due Fri., 5/4.
- Test–India–Fri., 5/4.

You will write a speech from the perspective of a character from Greek mythology, as well as create an advertisement and explain a mythological allusion. (Characters and allusions will be assigned in class.) Here are some web sites for your research:

- Poet of the Day: Be prepared to present on the date you signed up for. If you are absent on the date you signed up for, be prepared to present on the day you return to class.
- Greek mythology project: You will have class time on Tuesday and Wednesday to complete note-taking on your assigned character and allusion. If you need additional time, complete it for homework. Due Thurs., 4/26.
- You will have class time on Thursday to work on your character speech. You should complete it for homework. Due Fri., 4/27. Honors: Write your character poem also. Due Fri., 4/27.
- Write your explanation of your allusion (explain the story in Greek mythology as well as what it means today). Due Mon., 4/30. Honors: Write your allusion poem also. Due Mon., 4/30.
Social Studies
- Complete your mandala if you did not complete it during class. Due Tues., 4/24.
- In class this week, you will be reading and completing notes on Ch. 16: Buddhism.
