Reading Process Development

Is able to read 31 Kindergarten sight words and spell 12 Kindergarten spelling words
Identifies all 26 upper &  lowercase letters of the alphabet.
Able to rhyme words when given a prompt.
Identify initial & final  sounds in words and can name   the corresponding letter.
Recognizes first & last name  & able to write it.

Reading Comprehension

Knows that words on a page convey meaning.
Uses personal experience and prior knowledge to make predictions and interpret information during story time and group discussions.
Tells or retells and makes inferences about a story including setting, characters, beginning, middle and end.
Recalls meaning of an information book.
Uses pictures, phonics and context to gain meaning from print.

Reading/Writing Connection

Engages in picture drawing or writing-like activities that connect to the reading experience.

Writing

Engages in writing or writing-like activities using scribble writing, temporary spelling
Composes and reads back his/her own writing.

Number Sense and Operations

Identify numerals (out of order) by stating their name for the #’s 0-31.
Demonstrates 1:1 correspondence with manipulatives from 0-20.
Match the corresponding number to a picture  of a set of objects from 0 to 30.
Counts to 31 by 1s.
Compares sets of objects up to 20 … which has more or less, or are they equal?
Orders numbers 0-20.

Counts and groups objects by 10′s up to 10, 20, 30, etc.

Estimates sets of objects up to 10: is it more? less? or equal?

Fractions

Identifies equal parts of a whole divided into 2 parts.

Geometry

Names the four basic plane figures:  circle, square, rectangle, triangle.

Identify the 3-D shapes:  cube, sphere, cylinder, cone, and prism.

Money

Identify the penny and dime when mixed amongst other coins.

Name the value of the penny and dime.  Count pennies and trade for objects.

Measurement

Compares lengths and heights (using longer, longest, shorter, shortest).

Graphing and Probability

Counts, reads and compares numbers of objects in pictographs and bar graphs.

Patterns and Problem Solving

Creates, explains and extends patterns.
Sorts a set of objects according to characteristics (ex., color, shape, size, etc.).

Completes simple geometric puzzles and can explain the reasoning behind his/her choices.
