This Land Is Your Land!
Join our 2nd grade students singing one of our favorites, Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land”.
This Land Is Your Land
This land is your land This land is my land
From California to the New York island;
From the red wood forest to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and Me.
As I was walking that ribbon of highway,
I saw above me that endless skyway:
I saw below me that golden valley:
This land was made for you and me.
I’ve roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts;
And all around me a voice was sounding:
This land was made for you and me.
When the sun came shining, and I was strolling,
And the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling,
As the fog was lifting a voice was chanting:
This land was made for you and me.
As I went walking I saw a sign there
And on the sign it said “No Trespassing.”
But on the other side it didn’t say nothing,
That side was made for you and me.
In the shadow of the steeple I saw my people,
By the relief office I seen my people;
As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking
Is this land made for you and me?
Nobody living can ever stop me,
As I go walking that freedom highway;
Nobody living can ever make me turn back
This land was made for you and me.

Mrs. Gargula found this very cool website -
I had a great time playing around on it. Hope you do, too!
Our 4th graders have been singing a song about an old Austrian who goes yodeling. I found this crazy website that will teach you how to yodel! Good luck!
I can’t wait to see everyone next week! What a great year ahead of us.
I want everybody to check out this unbelievable chorus from Public School 22 in Staten Island, New York. They are a 5th grade chorus (not auditioned) and have rocked my world – my heart pretty much just bursts every time I listen to them. I hope you will have a chance to listen to their message – which is delivered through their beautiful voices. Maybe when you listen to them, you will understand how people feel when they hear YOU singing. You have the power!

Ms. Dimick and I went backpacking for a week along the CT portion of the Appalachian Trail. It was AWESOME. Where was the music on this trip? In my head. For much of the time, I just enjoyed the quiet of the woods, but often I found myself singing to myself as we were hiking – although not when the hiking was hard. This was right after Michael Jackson passed away, so I found myself humming his songs often – especially “You Are Not Alone”. I think that one was stuck in my head because Ms. Dimick and I said to each other at the beginning of our hike that no matter what happens along the trail, we each had each other to help and that we wouldn’t feel alone.

To the Balkans and Back!
Hi Everybody! I hope this summer has been filled with lots of fun for you, including music of some kind – whether it’s your own voice, or the radio, or a concert or inside your head. I just returned from a trip around Southeast Europe through an area called the Balkans. I visited Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro and then went to study music for a week in Bulgaria. I even sang without a microphone (!!!) for a week and it was great. I was so very happy that my voice was working. You guys know how that has been! I also had drum lessons (of course) and danced every day to traditional Bulgarian music. I was exhausted and happy. I’m even more happy to be home now, thinking of all of you and what a great year we will have making music at Webster Hill!

If you click on the songs and your computer doesn’t open it for you to hear, you may need to tell your computer to open a listening program.
For example, I use www.quicktime.com, or www.itunes.com, or www.realplayer.com for opening sound files.
I hope this helps!!!!
Thanks to Mrs. Corcoran’s class for letting me know I needed to give you this information.
Here is a song that Mrs. McKenzie’s 2nd graders composed about the little, fluffy ducklings that Mrs. Gannon brought in. Awwwww! They’re adorable.
Mrs. Burkey’s class wrote this amazingly creepy song about a creepy house and even the melody is creepy!
