Tuesday, May 22, 2012: HOT OFF THE PRESS! Check out the April-May 2012 “Weird But True” Edition of The HOOT…Weird But True Edition The latest edition of The HOOT was shared on the SmartBoard during the meeting today. Reporters in attendance were presented with a certificate by Dr. DePalma. Next year was discussed and ideas were shared. Students in attendance also voted on which edition from the 2011-2012 school year they wanted to submit for the 2012 CABE Award. Our first meeting will be in September so look for a permission slip to come home around the first day of school. Looking forward to another wonderful year of newspaper articles! Have a fantastic summer!

Tuesday, April 3, 2012: Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 22nd at 8:00am in room 5. Today we discussed our next edition. The topic will be “Weird But True”. The students spent some time brainstorming ideas for articles. Reporters should cite at least 1 reference at the end of the article. Rough drafts should be emailed by Wednesday, April 25th. Feedback will be provided to all reporters who submit a rough draft on or before the due date. Final articles must be emailed by Wednesday, May 2nd to be included in the ”Weird But True” Edition. ALL reporters should email their rough draft and final copy articles articles to Ms. Greenwell at kimberly_greenwell@whps.org

Tuesday, Febuary 7, 2012: Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, April 3rd at 8:00am in room 5. We discussed our next edition. The topic will be “Making the World a Better Place”. The students spent some time brainstorming ideas for articles (Article Assignments) Reporters should cite at least 1 reference at the end of the article.Rough drafts should be emailed by Thursday, February 23rd. Feedback will be provided to all reporters who submit a rough draft on or before the due date. Final articles must be emailed by Tuesday, March 6th to be included in the Making the World a Better Place Edition. Third grade reporters should email all rough draft and final copy articles to Mrs. Cleary (johanna_cleary@whps.org) and Ms. Greenwell (kimberly_greenwell@whps.org). Tuesday, January 10, 2012: Our next meeting at 8:00am in room 5. We discussed our next edition. The topic will be “Careers”. The students spent some time brainstorming ideas for articles. Reporters should research careers that interest them and possibly interview someone in that occupation. Reporters should cite at least 1 reference at the end of the article. Rough drafts should be emailed by Monday, January 23rd. Feedback will be provided to all reporters who submit a rough draft on or before the due date. Final articles must be emailed by Monday, January 30th to be included in the Careers Edition. Third grade reporters should email all rough draft and final copy articles to Mrs. Cleary (johanna_cleary@whps.org). Fourth and fifth grade reporters should email all rough draft and final copy articles articles to Ms. Greenwell (kimberly_greenwell@whps.org).
Tuesday, December 6, 2011: The topic for our second edition will be “Technology and Inventions”. Reporters should write articles about topics such as new technology, advances or changes in existing technology or inventions. If information is researched on the internet or in books to complete an article, reporters should include references at the end of the article. Rough drafts should be emailed by Thursday, December 15th. Feedback will be provided to all reporters who submit a rough draft on or before the due date. Final articles must be emailed by Wednesday, December 21st to be included in the Technology and Invention Edition. Third grade reporters should email all rough draft and final copy articles to Mrs. Cleary (johanna_cleary@whps.org). The rough draft can be submitted in hard copy or electronic form. The final draft is due on Tuesday, October 25th. The final draft must be submitted in electronic form (email or flash drive). All final copies should be emailed on or before Tuesday, October 25th.The topic of our first edition will be *Reporters’ Edition*. The article topics are anything of interest to our reporters! All 3rd grade students should submit articles to Mrs. Cleary and all 4th and 5th grade students should submit articles to Ms. Greenwell. Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 6th.

Tuesday, May 24, 2011: meeting The *Memory* edition was shared on the SmartBoard during the meeting. Here is a copy of the Memory Edition: May Reporters in attendance were presented with a certificate by Dr. DePalma. After receiving their certificates, the reporters had juice and munchkins. Next year was discussed. Our first meeting will be in September so look for a permission slip to come home around the first day of school. Tuesday, May 10, 2011: meeting The *Go Green Issue* edition was shared on the SmartBoard during the meeting. Here is a copy of the Go Green Edition: April We discussed our final edition for the 2010-2011 school year. Reporters shared articles and ideas for the * Whiting Lane Memory Issue*. Final drafts are due NO LATER than Friday, May 13, 2011. The final draft must be submitted in electronic form (email). All final copies should be emailed on or before Friday, May 13th. All 3rd grade students should submit articles to Mrs. Cleary and all 4th and 5th grade students should submit articles to Ms. Greenwell. Our final meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 24th at 8:00am in room 1.

Some article ideas include: Cultural Council events, Student Council events, field trips, special days, PTO events or your first day of school. The rough draft is due on Tuesday, May 3rd. The rough draft can be submitted in hard copy or electronic form. The final draft is due on Tuesday, May 10th. The final draft must be submitted in electronic form (email). Wednesday, Nov 4th: Welcome meeting. Ideas for articles discussed…first edition rough draft due December 1st and final draft due December 4th. Reporters Edition: article topics of interest to our reporters!
Tuesday, Dec. 1st: Peer editing articles for first edition. We now have peer editors available to all reporters. Send your rough drafts to Ms. Greenwell and a peer editor will give you feedback and suggestions. NEW article deadline is Monday, December 7th!
Tuesday, Jan 5th: HAPPY NEW YEAR! Reporters viewed our first edition and it will be added to the Whiting Lane website by Wednesday, January 6th.
