Happy New Year!

January19

In the new year, we are starting to write about your favorite books. The booklist we make will be another good place for you to find ideas for pleasure reading books. Your post should include:
1. Book title
2. Author
3. Two sentence summary
The two sentence summary is a challenge. The summary is to give the next reader a general idea what the book is about and why you found it interesting. The first sentence should answer the question: What happens to the main character? The second sentence should answer the question: What would interest someone in reading this book?
Give it a try. We look forward to reading about your favorite books.

Author Tracy Trivas

June16

Children’s author Tracy Trivas visited our school today. She went to Duffy as a child! Ms. Trivas inspired the audience of fourth and fifth grade students with her presentation on how her first book was made. The Wish Stealers is about the adventures of Griffin Penshine; how she was tricked into taking a box of pennies stolen from a wishing fountain which hold a terrible curse. This begins the journey for Griffin who needs to return the stolen wishes attached to each penny, or be doomed forever by the curse. Ms. Trivas talked about both her personal journeys of writing the book and growing up as a Duffy student. One student noted at the end of the presentation. “Wow, she is just like us. I can be an author too.”
