Hi Mrs.Corricelli
On the Practice C w.s we had for hw on number 10 it has X and Y with fraction exponets on each one. You can add the exponets across right? and i keep forgetting on when you make common dem. and when you just multiply? I think You mutiply everything in when there is a fraction outside the ( ). and when there is a whole number outside you only apply it to the top number of the fraction? i could really use some clarifyication. also can i come see you 5th period on monday?? or should i just go to the MRC with Mrs. chase?
Thanks!!
Lilah,
Please feel free to email me anytime with questions like this – jackie_corricelli@whps.org.
You need a common denominator to add fractions. So if you are adding powers and those powers are fractions, you need a common denominator. An example is [(2/3)^(1/5)][(2/3)^(1/3)]. See how they have the same base (2/3) but they are raised to different powers? So you would add those powers, 1/5 + 1/3 and you would need a common denominator to do this. You multiply powers when you are raising something to a power more than once (which is what happens w/ parentheses). So [(2/3)^(1/5)]^(1/3) = (2/3)^(1/15). You mutiply the 1/5 by 1/3 to get 1/15. When multiplying fractions, you do not need a common denominator – you just multiply the numerators together and the denominators together.
As far as today 5th period, I cannot meet with you b/c I do have something else scheduled. Mrs. Chase is teaching this right now too, so she is a great resource.
Thank you,
Mrs. Corricelli
Hi Mrs. Corricelli,
I was studying yesterday for the chapter 6 and 7 test, On the top of the practice test (the one you said is going to be our test with different numbers) where you have the bulleted topics in bold for the chapters that are what we need to study.
I noticed that some of the topics were not in the actual practice test you gave us.. The last bullet says “Solving Rational Equations” but there isn’t any of those problems on that test you gave us. And Is there going to be anything from 7.1 and 7.2 on the test cause they’re not in the practice test either?
I was just wondering if those things will be on our test Tuesday.
Hi Mrs.Corricelli,
I’m having trouble on number 8.b. in the test review packet. I understand how to do 8.a. which is finding the radius of the sphere when SA (r) = 4 · 3.14 · r^2. But when it says solve for the inverse of SA (r), which will give r in terms of SA are we supposed to use the equation r = 4· 3.14 · SA^2? Because I did that formula and came up with an answer that didn’t make sense. I’m not sure whether I just did simple math wrong, or just do not understand the question.
Thank you!
Amanda,
I did not have my work at home – remember, please, this blog is really for anyone to answer – not just me!
We can discuss this whenever you would like – even after the test.
Thank you,
Mrs. Corricelli
Kate,
You want to look at the questions that direct you to other quizzes. Rather than copy and paste the quizzes (which I gave you in a separate packet, at the same time as this review, with detailed answers), I directed you to the questions in each quiz.
I did not want to be un-green by making unnecessary copies.
Thank you,
Mrs. Corricelli
Hi! So tonight i did the homwork and did the quiz on page 485. i feel good about everything and just have a few questions to clear up but i was wondering if i could take the test either thursday morning or thursday during 5th period? i want to be able to be in class on wednesday to ask questions and work out any problems i have and go to the MRC if i have more questions. So i just wanted to know what time is best for you on thursday!?
Hello Lilah!
Great! In the future, when you have an individual question please email me at jackie_corricelli@whps.org.
As far as the quiz, anytime on Thursday is fine with me – you are making it up. The quiz will be on Thursday in class, too. It will not be on third quarter, so there is no serious urgency. Let me know the time you would like to make it up.
Thanks Lilah – glad that you are feeling good about this material!
