What is a quadratic? How is it useful?

A quadratic is an expression or equation as a square variable. This link that I used helped me get a better understanding of quadratics because it had a simple explanation of it.
It is useful in the scientists and mathematical world to find shapes, circles, ellipses, and more. It is also used in the Pythagorean theorem and in engineering.
