Actuarial Science Boot Camp

The Connecticut Insurance & Financial [IFS] Cluster is sponsoring the 4th Annual Actuarial Boot Camp for high school students to be held from July 9-13, 2012 at Prudential Retirement in Hartford!

This year’s camp follows a very successful program for the last three years in which high school students receive first-hand experience in learning about actuarial careers. There is no cost to attend the boot camp! Each student will meet with local actuaries from some of the large insurance companies in the area, be offered career development advice, develop some important business skills, and most of all, be provided with actuary-led exam preparation instruction to help them pass their first actuarial exam, if they so desire!

There continues to be a shortage of actuaries in Connecticut, especially within the Hartford area. In response to that shortage, the Connecticut IFS Cluster is proud to host and sponsor the camp and is looking for top, very bright math students to participate. Click for the flyer and application (2012 ABC Flyer and Application) for additional information on the Actuarial Boot Camp along with deadline [ May 25 ] and eligibility requirements. The materials are also accessible via the IFS Cluster website.

Hope this helps,

Pi Day Video Award Winner!

Hello Teams:

Choosing a mathlete who best represents Pi was not an easy task. I was most impressed by the work that went into a task and the final finished product.

The mathlete chosen was Charlie McMahon. Check out his most amazing video, which we shared in class, and the lyrics shown here: I’m dreaming of a Pi ending by Charlie McMahon.
