Charter Oak Library Media Center

FAQs

When is the library open?

The library is open throughout the school day.  Students and staff can access Athena, our library catalog,  from their classrooms and in the library.

How Do I check out books?

Charter Oak uses a computerized circulation system and catalog called Athena.  Every student and teacher is registered as a library user.  Students may sign out books for two weeks.  Students in Pre-K, K and 1st grade may sign out 1 book per visit.  Students in grades 2-5 may choose up to 3 books per visit.  If there are additional inquiry needs, students can make arrangements with Mrs. Cochrane.

Students may check out magazines, books and books on tape.  Teachers and parents may sign out videos in addition to regular print materials.

Overdue fines are not charged, however, if a book is lost or damaged beyond repair a fine will be assessed.  Students are encouraged to return damaged items as they may be salvageable.  Money is refunded for a book returned within the same school year.

Students must return outstanding items before borrowing any new items.
