Be the Media
Would you like to learn how to shoot video, write scripts and report Bristow’s stories to the greater West Hartford community? Would you like a chance to be on television???? Then “BE THE MEDIA” video club is the place for you!!!
Our first meeting is Thursday, October 7, 2010 right after school in the library until 4:00.
Bristow Big Band
The Bristow Big Band is a select jazz ensemble open by audition which studies and performs jazz, swing, and pop music. Students will also have the opportunity to study jazz improvisation.
Rehearsal Schedule:
Full Band: Thursdays after school, 3:00 to 4:10 (late bus available)
Monthly Sectionals: Tuesdays before school, 7:15 to 7:55
Students may be involved in other after-school activities, such as track, intramurals, the musical, and other select groups, and still be in Big Band.
Performances: The Bristow Big Band will perform on the select group concerts every winter and spring, and at other performance opportunities during the year (such as Celebrate West Hartford).
Instruments: Membership in the Bristow Big Band is open to performers on the flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, string or electric bass, guitar, and drums, Performers on the baritone horn and tuba will also be considered.
The Bristow Drama Club will be performing “Guys & Dolls” for the 2010-2011 school year.
Pencil Point is the school’s literary magazine that comes out twice a year, in the winter and the spring. Students and teachers submit writing pieces to be published in the magazine, and talented artists are encouraged to participate in designing artwork for the magazine. Mrs. Morris and group members make decisions regarding the submitted work and take part in editing and finalizing this publication. Group meetings are scheduled on an as needed basis.
Student Council is composed of students from all grades and has four officers. We meet twice a month on Wednesday mornings before school. We are focusing on several projects this year. We’re doing a Leukemia fund-raiser in March. We also have plans for a spirit day and possibly a dance or two this year.
Begins on Tuesday, September 24th – Tuesday/Thursday/Friday 6:50-7:50 am – PLEASE BE ON TIME
Monday/Tuesday/Thursday 3:00-4:00 pm.

What is Voices of Bristow?
Voices of Bristow is a select group open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at Bristow Middle School. Students in the group are dedicated singers who want to sing some challenging music. -
Do I have to be in choir during school to be in Voices of Bristow?
You must be in Choir to be in Voices of Bristow. The only exceptions are for students who are in both Band and Orchestra, or Band/Orchestra and Quest. -
When does Voices of Bristow meet?
Mondays after-school from 3-4:10 (there is a late bus) and Thursday before-school from 7:15-7:50 (you need to get your own ride to school). -
Can I be involved in other activities if I am in Voices of Bristow?
Yes! The reason we only do one after-school rehearsal and one morning rehearsal is so that you have other days of the week available for other activities. Students in Voices this year also participated in Intramurals, Builders Club, Student Council, Bristow Big Band, Bristow Bows, the musical, track, and many other activities.
