Hi Cathy,

This year teachers do not have access to YouTube because of bandwidth issues at our elementary schools. Next year, once fiber is in place to all WHPS schools, the teacher logins will allow access to YouTube but it will remain filtered for students.

I hope you find this information helpful,

Hi Kevin:

Another good question. Currently only one of our elementary schools, the Florence E. Smith Magnet School for Science, Math and Technology uses eChalk for its web presence. When purchasing eChalk for a single school, a district site is a mandatory addition. The site address- http://www.whpschools.com is a "placeholder" for the Smith site. West Hartford Public Schools has no plans to move the main district site to this address. We have asked the eChalk support staff to re-direct the Smith WHPS district link to our current site but to date this has not been done. Thank you for your keen observations and I hope this response was helpful.
One question, "What are your thoughts on the current WHPS web site?"

Best to you,
Denise Jaffe

Thank you. Your reply does answer my concerns.

I have another, unrelated question: Is West Harford Public Schools building a new website, powered by eChalk, at this address: http://www.whpschools.com? And if so, will the new website eventually replace the current http://www.whps.org?

Hi Kevin,
Your concern is a good one. We do not have the money or the manpower to upgrade all computers to handle Office 2007/2010. We have written into our technology plan that our goal is to ensure that we have no computers older than 5 years and that we will replace these using eRate funds. All new computers come with Microsoft Office 2007/2010 installed already. This is a long-winded way of saying that all new computers will have the newest versions of Office. We will on a request by request basis upgrade individual computers when possible. We have already replaced or upgraded 90% of our school labs to Office 2007/2010 to date. I hope this was helpful.

Best to you,
Denise Jaffe

Hi Mrs. Jaffe,

Thank you very much for the excellent tutorial.

One concern I do have is that older hardware, especially at the elementary schools will not be able to run the newer editions of Microsoft Office. Will Office 2007 or 2010 be installed on every computer in the district, or will only the newer machines be subject to the upgrade?
