Principal’s Message

Welcome to the Aiken Elementary School website. Aiken School is named in honor of Mary Louise Aiken, a devoted educator. Aiken School is a wonderful place to learn and grow! Students in preschool through grade five receive an outstanding education under the direction and support of our dedicated teachers and staff. Swoop, the owl, named by our students in honor of the Great Horned Owl, is our special school mascot. His picture, chosen by the students, is emblazoned on colorful tee shirts that students and staff wear to monthly assemblies. Students practice the characteristics of caring respect and responsibility as Aiken citizens and have the opportunity to earn special Principal’s recognition each week for their hard work in character development and academic achievement. Students also participate in many exciting and rewarding activities such as safety patrol, student council and mentoring younger students. They also are actively involved in chorus, orchestra and band when they are in fourth and fifth grade.
Our families are a special part of what makes Aiken so unique. Parents volunteer in our classrooms and support our school through participation in our Parent Teacher Organization. Aiken has recently created beautiful gardens, amphitheatre and a nature trail in the back of the school, known as Aiken Acres. The gardens are linked to specific curriculum themes that each grade level is studying and are cared for by the students, teachers and parents. There are many annual activities at Aiken that celebrate our diversity and sense of community, such as International Night, Pizza Bingo Night and our Spring Fair. Our Spring Art Show features a variety of art work and a carousel of horses that highlights students’ cultural heritage. As you browse our website, you will learn about the rich curriculum themes at each grade level. Take time to scan the calendar of events to see what exciting activities are in store throughout the school year. Find out about the cultures that will be studied at each grade level. Catch up on what’s happening in Art, Music, World Language and Physical Education. You will discover that Aiken Elementary School truly is a great place to be!
